Cumbria has a rich heritage of music, dance, and language. We have brought these elements together to develop an interactive version of the Cumbrian Songs & Stories show for schools, supporting teaching and learning about heritage and culture, language and literacy, music, dance, geography, history and numeracy.
We have structured the experience as a performance with a literacy and numeracy activity covering either 1½ hours, OR as the performance and activity, plus song and dance workshops culminating in a new performance with the pupils, over a full school morning.
1½ Hour Session
The basic 1½ hour structure is a performance and introduction to the experience, followed by a interactive session exploring Norse influences on language and Cumbrian place-names and plotting places on a map grid.
This can lead onto a workshop and performance for the remainder of the morning, where pupils can choose to learn a Cumbrian song or some Lakeland clog-steps and finish with a fusion of the work into a performance.
The full morning package includes learning materials for further study, such as a CD of the music used and video of the dance steps learned, and your school is welcome to record the experience for your own in-house uses.
Steve is a professional musician and storyteller who has been performing his Cumbrian Songs and Stories show around the area.
Arwen is an experienced step-clog dancer and teacher, having performed at festivals in the UK and abroad.
The 'Cumbrian Songs and Stories' full morning experience is priced at £300 with the shorter experience priced at £220. This covers preparation, travel, delivery and learning materials.
If you think any of the above may be of interest, or if we can offer a variation on the experience for you, please do not hesitate to contact us by email or on Arwen's mobile 07866 456031.
